Understanding the Correlation Matrix

The correlation matrix shows how cryptocurrencies move in relation to each other. Each cell represents the correlation between two assets.

Correlation Values:

1.00
Perfect positive correlation
0.00
No correlation
-1.00
Perfect negative correlation
  • Positive correlation (0.3 to 1.0): Assets tend to move in the same direction
  • Negative correlation (-1.0 to -0.3): Assets tend to move in opposite directions
  • Neutral correlation (-0.3 to 0.3): No clear relationship between assets

Lead-Lag Indicators:

These show which asset tends to move first (lead) and which follows (lag):

  • → (Right arrow): Row asset leads column asset
  • ← (Left arrow): Column asset leads row asset
  • Number: The lag period (how many time intervals the follower lags by)
  • Color strength: Indicates how strong the lead-lag relationship is

For example, if BTC has a "→ 2" indicator against ETH, it means BTC price movements tend to lead ETH by 2 time intervals (e.g., 2 hours if using 1h intervals).
